Metaphor, Embodied Simulation and Mental imagery: towards a multimodal approach to pragmatics

metaphor, embodied simulation, mental imagery, pragmatics, affectivismAbstract
This article explores the role of the non-propositional dimension of cognition in linguistic understanding, with particular focus on the mechanisms of Embodied Simulation and Mental Imagery. Through a critical analysis of experimental data and theoretical reflections – and using metaphor as a case study – it proposes a pragmatic model based on multiple representations, capable of capturing the complexity and multimodal layering of linguistic meaning.
